Skyline Selected to Provide Managed Network Services for the Texas Department of Transportation Traffic Network

AUSTIN, TX — Skyline Technology Solutions (Skyline) announces that the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has selected Skyline for a long-term, six- to nine-year partnership for delivering both managed network and transformational technology services for the TxDOT Traffic Network.

Under this contract, Skyline will be responsible for operating, supporting, and maintaining equipment and devices within the TxDOT Traffic Network. Additionally, Skyline will be responsible for proactively identifying opportunities for improvement to evolve best-in-breed network and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) technologies.

TxDOT recognizes the increasing importance and reliance on technology to deliver on their mission for safety and vision to ensure operational excellence of the digital infrastructure and facilitate technology-driven transportation innovations.

Skyline is currently providing statewide video aggregation and sharing for TxDOT with Skyline's Claris product. Claris is the video interoperability platform in 19 DOTs and toll authorities nationally. Under this new contract, Skyline will also be contributing to the evolution of the Traffic Management Field Access Network (TM-FAN) and all new, emerging internet of things (IoT) technologies.

In partnership with Skyline, TxDOT plans to evolve its network to better manage operations, security, and scalability and to simplify the introduction of new capabilities that will drive resiliency, agility, and innovation. Skyline will focus on operational excellence and the need for critical asset assessment and network resilience improvements for the near term.

"Skyline is honored to be named the partner entrusted to lead the future transformation of the ITS network with TxDOT. We understand the importance of traveler safety and the roles that operational excellence, scalability, and resilience across the ITS network play in creating that safety. We are thrilled to partner with TxDOT on this endeavor as the transformation unfolds," said Mia Millette, Chief Executive Officer of Skyline Technology Solutions.

TxDOT maintains more than 79,000 miles of roadway equipped with traffic cameras, signals, speed sensors, traffic counters, toll tag readers, and the network infrastructure to connect these devices. More than 15,000 of these devices are currently connected to the network, and many more will come online in the future as TxDOT expands dynamically timed signals and other network-enabled smart traffic technologies. Together, these devices and technologies are referred to as TM-FAN. The TM-FAN consists of 25 independent, district-based networks designed to support roadway equipment that assists TxDOT in monitoring and managing traffic flow and responding to traffic crashes and other incidents.
