American Constructors Announces Completion of Killeen High School #6

KILLEEN, TX — American Constructors, a Central Texas general contractor and construction management firm, announces the completion of Chaparral High School, the newest campus for Killeen Independent School District (KISD). KISD celebrated the grand opening of the school during a dedication ceremony with district leadership, students, families, and community members.

In May 2018, voters overwhelmingly approved a bond election to fund the construction of the district’s sixth high school, a comprehensive grade 9-12 campus — the first new high school built in KISD in over two decades. The 432,000-square-foot Chaparral High School can accommodate up to 3,000 students and includes 72 classrooms, 22 science labs, a media center, and flexible learning spaces in common areas.

“We are honored to be part of this historic milestone for Killeen ISD,” said Marty Burger, American Constructors CEO. “Chaparral High School has been one of our most rewarding projects to date. We’re grateful for the opportunity to partner with KISD to construct a state-of-the-art campus that will serve thousands of students over the decades and support the district’s growing population.”

Designed by PBK Architects, Chaparral High School features:

  • Specialized areas for robotics, engineering, and ROTC
  • 1,200-seat auditorium for performing arts
  • Regional athletics complex
  • An artificial turf competition field
  • Baseball and softballs fields with press boxes
  • Separate soccer and football practice fields
  • Eight Competition Tennis courts
  • Two areas for concessions and a fully integrated fieldhouse
  • Natural stone and wood finishes throughout

Additionally, Chaparral High School includes Joseph L. Searles III Stadium, which will serve as the district’s second regional stadium.

American Constructors was also able to adjust the project schedule for the athletics spaces in order to accommodate camps and training taking place over the summer before the start of school. By moving the schedule up two weeks, KISD was able to bring students on-site earlier than anticipated and kickstart the athletics season.
