AUSTIN, TX — Gensler announces the promotions of John Houser, RA; Travis Albrecht, AIA, LEED AP, SEED Certified, RA; Michael Rey, AIA, NCARB; Ken Wiesehuegel, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP ID+C; Todd MacPherson, AIA, LEED AP; and Vince Flickinger, RID, IIDA, LEED AP BD+C throughout the company's Texas offices.
John Houser, Design Director, Principal
Houser said he enjoys creating spaces that are as beautiful as they are comfortable, efficient, and purposeful. His passion for design originates from his interest in architectural history, engineering, and the desire to create real-life works of art in the community. His design concepts are rooted in creating unique experiences and incorporating equity for both the client and the community.

While at Gensler, he has led planning and design efforts on projects including the University of Texas at Austin Moody Center and basketball practice facility, Block 16 + Austin Convention Center, 823 Congress building repositioning, The Orchard public art installation, and the Circuit of the Americas redevelopment master plan.

Travis Albrecht, Design Director, Principal


As a Design Director at Gensler Austin, Albrecht has expertise in sustainable design and planning. Since joining the firm in 2008, he has been involved in many significant projects, as well as helped foster the growth of the office. His experience spans an array of project types, from commercial office buildings and mixed use to education and master planning.

Some of his notable projects include: 500 West 2nd (Google Tower), Block 164 Office Tower, The Domain Northside, The Fairmont Austin, Fifth + Tillery, Hilton Austin Overhead Walkway, the Moody Center (UT basketball arena and events center), and UPCycle. Albrecht is also involved in strategic planning and thought leadership on topics including digital design, design resilience, and design purpose. He received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin.

Michael Rey, Managing Director, Principal
Rey is the Managing Director of Gensler’s San Antonio office. He has 20 years of architecture, business development, and project management experience. He has worked on a variety of building types, spanning civic, commercial, educational, hospitality, multifamily, and urban design, which includes projects such as the UTSA National Security Collaboration Center and School of Data Science, ProjectMEND headquarters, the Alameda Theater, the San Antonio Zoo animal hospital, and ChildSafe facility.

Rey's previous roles include Senior Principal and Vice President of Operations at Overland Partners, Lead Architect for Jacobs San Antonio, as well as launching his own firm in 2011. He has taught at UTSA’s School of Architecture and currently serves as Chair of their advocacy and advisory council. He is also an active supporter of organizations like the Boy Scouts of America, KIPP, San Antonio Sports Foundation - Healthy Kids, and Snack Pak 4 Kids SA. Rey received a bachelor’s degree in environmental design from Texas A&M University, followed by a Master of Architecture from Yale University.

Ken Wiesehuegel, Studio Director, Principal


Wiesehuegel brings more than 30 years of experience managing law firm projects of all sizes. He has managed consultants of all disciplines, and complex project teams. Acting as a centralized point of contact for his clients, Wiesehuegel's specialization is working with law firms, an expertise he has developed after delivering more than four million square feet of law firm space and more than six million square feet of professional service firm projects in total.

He is capable of taking projects from programming, through space planning, design development, cost estimating, facility planning, finish selection, construction, construction administration, and project close-out. Wiesehuegel manages numerous projects and staff members simultaneously. He also analyzes problems and solves them quickly with minimal budget, design, and functional consequences.

Todd MacPherson, Senior Designer, Principal


Equipped with a diverse project background, MacPherson is a Senior Designer in Gensler’s Aviation Practice Area. For the past 15 years, he has worked on some of the country’s largest airports, including Chicago O’Hare, Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta Airport, George Bush Intercontinental Airport, and Detroit Wayne County Airport. MacPherson's expertise in aviation projects includes all phases of the design process, airside planning, security checkpoint planning, and baggage handling system design.

Vince Flickinger, Principal, Design Director, Studio Director
A global leader in Gensler's Energy practice, Flickinger brings over 20 years of experience in a broad range of project types and roles. His involvement in all phases of projects — from design to construction administration — gives him a unique perspective that allows him to add value in a multitude of ways. His depth of knowledge in corporate workplace design has helped deliver successful projects for clients like BP, Chevron, Shell, and Johnson & Johnson.

Outside of work, Flickinger is an active member in a number of AEC organizations including the Texas Association for Interior Design and the International Interior Design Association.
