Pfluger Architects, N&T Construction, and Orangefield ISD Break Ground on Educational Facilities

HOUSTON, TX — Orangefield Independent School District (ISD), in collaboration with Pfluger Architects and N&T Construction, recently commenced construction on substantial improvements across its three campuses. Funded by a $42.9 million bond approved in 2023 — its first successful bond in 20 years — these projects are a direct result of a planning process led by Pfluger Architects.

The design replaces 21 portables with permanent facilities, encloses previously open areas, and adds windows to every new classroom, creating a brighter, more secure learning environment. At the elementary school, improvements include a two-story addition with 32 classrooms, a new cafetorium, and a renovated gym. The junior high school will see expanded classrooms and new support spaces. The high school will gain a new cafeteria, library, classrooms, and Career and Technical Education spaces. Additionally, all campuses will receive upgraded safety features, utility upgrades, flood mitigation measures, and new landscaping and walkways, all designed with future expansion in mind as the region’s population grows.

“Working with the people in Orangefield ISD has been a privilege,” said Raleigh Sullivan, Managing Principal of Pfluger’s Houston studio. “The community is deeply invested in their schools, and that commitment has inspired us and our design. They take pride in knowing every improvement we’ve worked on together will have a meaningful impact on generations of students and teachers here.”

Working with 60 local residents, the bond planning committee identified focus areas for the expansive project: safety, growth, and expanded learning opportunities. After the bond passed, additional user group meetings helped refine the designs for the facility improvements now under construction by N&T Construction. “We’re honored to partner with Orangefield ISD and Pfluger Architects to bring these transformative projects to life,” said Vince Jabbia, Vice President at N&T Construction. “We’re committed to delivering quality facilities that will serve students and educators for generations, enhancing both safety and learning opportunities in this growing community.”

Construction is expected to be completed by summer 2026.
