Adolfson & Peterson Construction Completes Recreation Center for the City of Allen, Texas

ALLEN, TX — Adolfson & Peterson Construction (AP), a national, family-owned construction management and contracting company, recently completed the Stephen G. Terrell Recreation Center, a two-story, 150,000-square-foot facility in Allen, a suburb 25 miles north of downtown Dallas.

Named for former Allen Mayor Stephen G. Terrell, the recreation center kicked off construction in July 2021. Through public meetings, workshops, and online surveys, Allen residents strategically selected the center’s amenities, including two gymnasiums with three recreation courts and eight competitive multipurpose courts. Additional amenities include an indoor walk/jog track with both flat and inclined stair options, weights and cardio areas for independent fitness, and group fitness areas. Other amenities include a variety of indoor play spaces, an outdoor fitness deck, a community space with classrooms and collaborative areas, a children’s playroom area, and a catering kitchen.

“We are honored to collaborate with the city and be part of this great project that now offers recreational facilities and opportunities to Allen residents west of U.S. Highway 75,” said Terry Loreth, Vice President at AP. “We have deep experience working with local governments and entities, and we used that specific construction expertise to build a facility that will play a key role in the Allen community for years to come.”

A key design feature of the Stephen G. Terrell Recreation Center was creating several gathering spaces of varying sizes to foster socialization, large and small, around the facility’s activity areas to bring people together. Several large meeting rooms and classrooms, along with outdoor gathering spaces, will be available to rent for community and private events. This space is envisioned to be a community living room with a variety of areas for both play and rest for all ages.

Barker Rinker Seacat Architecture served as architect for the project.
